I've been a bad blogger….

Ok, so it’s been nearly a month since I last posted. My apologies to the few friends & fam that actually read this blog. All I can say is that things have been a bit of a whirlwind lately. Last week I started a new job (as a Finance manager in the travel industry) and have been immersed in learning as much as possible. It’s always crazy in those first few weeks at a new company. Everyone speaks in a language you don’t understand, and you just want to get past the initial hurdle so you can make a meaningful contribution to your team. I can’t wait to get to that point. Everyone has been extremely patient & helpful, though, which has been great.

Texas State FairGiven the new day job, I haven’t had too much time to create in the evenings, but I’m working on a few things. I’ll post a polymer clay glazed necklace (a Patricia Kimle knock-off) in a bit. I’ve also been working on a geometric sterling silver bezel piece in my fabrication class (that will be filled with polymer clay). It should be done in about a week, so I’ll be sure to post it then. Finally, I’m also submitting a few art pieces to the creative department at the Texas State fair. (Yes, I’m a dork!) I don’t expect to win a ribbon, but it at least gives me a deadline to work towards & inspires me to make something cool.

For those of you that have never been, the fair is a ton of fun. If you are in the vicinity of the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex in October - you should go! Mike & I have attended the last couple of years & always have a blast. The shows are great - they have Chinese acrobats, a huge auto show, a ‘Birds of Prey’ show where raptors fly literally just above your head with a 10-foot wing span, and one year, they even had a live butterfly exhibit where you could walk through a small tropical garden area with over a thousand butterflies flitting about you. Too cool. Then, of course, we always hit the Midway and spend about $100 to win a $2 stuffed animal. But you can’t break tradition, right? ;) Here’s a link to the official fair site.
