Stamping on Dominoes…

Domino BraceletHere’s a fun & quick project to give as a gift or keep for yourself. Altered dominoes have been quite popular for the past few years, and I finally bought some a few months ago to experiment with. I made several bracelets that I submitted to a magazine for publication. This particular one was returned, so I am able to post it here. I highly suggest buying pre-drilled dominos from someplace like SundayInt. But if you have a set at home you want to alter into jewelry…I just suggest you wear a dust mask while drilling. These suckers will fill your lungs with plastic pretty quickly. (Yes, I speak from experience)!

Quick Instructions:
Domino Bracelet - View 2 Start by drilling your dominos, lightly sanding them and dyeing the back & sides with alcohol ink (I used Ranger alcohol ink here). Then stamp your image using black StazOn (or color of your choice). I colored in my dominos with LuminArte’s Primary Elements. Seal with an acrylic spray sealer, string with beads, & you are done! Here are some views of the different beads I stamped in this example… (Stamp credits: Hero Arts, Stampabilities, Hampton Arts)Domino Bracelet - View 3

Designing in silver & polymer clay…

Well - I finally made the project that I set out to do when I began silversmithing classes a couple of months ago. I have been wanting to combine silver & polymer clay for some time & am fascinated by how amazingly beautiful it can look when done right. Of course, this isn’t one of those examples. ;) But it isn’t bad for a first effort, I guess. The design reminds me a bit of Mondrian.

Quick directions:
Fabricate the bezel from fine sterling silver & solder it to a 20-gauge sterling base. Saw out the shape, file it, & attach a handmade bail (from 22-gauge sterling). After polishing, add some polymer clay in earth tones, bake the piece, sand it & buff to a shine. Helpful hint: Use some Mica pearlescent clay in at least one panel of your design to add interest (see top right panel of pendant). The light will reflect off of it beautifully & add texture to your piece.
