Altered stationary box…

So here’s what I did with the leftover notecards & box from my last project.

The stationary box started out looking like this:

I added some ribbon & chocolate cardstock borders to the top & sides, then altered the stationary as shown in my last post.

With lid shut:

With lid open:

I decided it would be difficult for someone to have to re-string the box shut after each use, so I removed the original string, added large brads to the string holes & secured a piece of twine to the top brad. The twine easily loops around the bottom brad to close & open the box.

TFL!

Thank you stationary gift set

I’m really into stationary gift sets these days, can’t ya tell?! *LOL*

I found a gorgeous set of notecards on clearance at Target a few weeks ago. I fell in love with the flower design on them, and knew they were begging to be embellished! Since they were pretty flimsy notecards to begin with, I decided to cut them up and use them as patterned paper. I layered the floral paper onto chocolate chip cardstock, added some satin ribbon, and a “Thanks” sentiment (Hero Arts). Then I mounted the stamped panel to a vanilla cardstock base.

I saw a great idea on Carolyn King’s blog a while back on packaging notecards with a beaded handle. Following her concept, I punched a couple of holes through the top of a clear box and added a handle using a strand of wood beads. (The beads started out as a napkin ring holder at World Market so they even came with some nice flexible wire!) I included a mini ballpoint pen that fit perfetly upright in the box & added a rolled strip of cardstock for stability. You can find these mini-pens at your local office supply store – I bought a set of 12 for a whopping 50 cents. The monogram tag was created with circle punches and an alphabet & circle stamp (Papertrey Ink). I decided to carry through the monogram tag theme onto each envelope as well…

Looking forward to giving this to a friend at Christmas! Since the original stationary set came with 12 notecards, I made an extra set of 6 to give to another friend. :)

Metal-embossed Journals

A while back, I decorated the cover of some colored journals with embossed pewter. I used designs from brass stencils (the same kind you can use on paper) along with some metal embossing stylus tools. Sheets of embossable aluminum or pewter are available at most of your local craft stores and are sold in tubes. I think these make great gifts for the holidays & love the way the below two came out, so I thought I’d share them with you. :)

Monogram Gift Set

I recently saw a great idea on Nichole Heady’s blog for creating homemade sachets with Nestabilities dies. I had some loose lavender on hand & decided to make a set of them for a co-worker’s birthday along with a matching monogrammed stationary set. The sachets were very simple to make – just follow Nichole’s tutorial here.

My one suggestion missing from her instructions is that after you cut the material, make sure that you use a bit of Fray Check on all the edges (available at your local craft or fabric store). Otherwise, you’ll get dozens of tiny loose threads that will come off of your scallops. Take it from someone who learned the hard way. *LOL*

Hope you’re having a great week!
