Tuesdays with Morrie

I absolutely love this book & movie, and I only recently found out they made the story into a 2-person play. All I can say is wow. I went to the production tonight in a small theatre in Addison. The environment was so intimate (with only 70 people) & the play was so moving that there wasn’t a dry eye in the house at the end! I’ve been hearing one of Morrie’s favorite quotes in my head all night, “We must love one another or die.”

The actors (Gary Taggart & Joe Nemmers, pictured below) were phenomenal. I’ll definitely be back to the Watertower Theatre for more productions in the future!

For those of you that may not be familiar, Tuesdays with Morrie is a memoir chronicling best-selling author Mitch Albom’s relationship with his favorite college sociology professor, Morrie Schwartz. It was compiled from meetings with Morrie on Tuesdays during his fight with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). Below is a synopsis from the theater’s webpage:

“When Mitch’s former Brandeis sociology professor and mentor is diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, the career-obsessed sportswriter plans a brief visit to re-connect and say goodbye. As their friendship rekindles and the visits become a weekly ritual, both teacher and student discover a tender and touching connection to each other. A powerful, deeply emotional story, Tuesdays with Morrie examines the true meaning of life and love.”

What a great show. It will be playing for one more night…so if any of you are in the DFW area – I highly recommend attending tomorrow! :)

Have I mentioned how much I love Shabby Princess? I took one of their wonderful free digital kits & revamped my blog, gallery, resume, & main webpage with the same color scheme (it was long overdue for a change!). The kit is called Express Yourself and is designed by Ronna Penner. You can download a copy for yourself here. :D

More Target goodies…

I’ve been surprised in the last year at all the cool crafting supplies you can find at your local Target store! They go on clearance on a regular basis, and you can sometimes find some real gems. I found a few treasures this week including a booklet full of die-cut flowers that you pop out & assemble. I think there were 12 pages full of flowers on clearance for just $3! Here is one I put on a white dry-embossed card with white satin ribbon. (The stamped sentiment is from Papertrey Ink’s Faux Ribbon set.) Since this is mostly just assembly, it’s a really quick & easy card to make.

If you have a Target nearby, I suggest you drop in this week to see all of the other items on clearance as well (embellishments, Making Memories kits, stickers, foam stamps, and the list goes on!) Hmmm…I guess this makes me an enabler! *LOL*

Are you in my car?!??!

Ok – I just had to share this story. Mimi & I went to dinner last night with my close friend, Caroline, at downtown Disney. When we returned to the parking lot, we were having a terrible time trying to find Caroline’s SUV. As we walked through the parking lot, she had her arm raised with her keypad trying to listen for the familiar beeping sound of the doors unlocking. We finally saw a couple lights flash, and the car doors unlock beside us. Mimi & I hopped into the SUV & waited for Caroline to come in. We looked off to the side, and there was a man & his wife staring at us oddly. He hesitated with a questioning look & said, “I think you’re in my car!” *LOL* We had inadvertanly hopped into a stranger’s car thinking it was Caroline’s!!!! Ends up her car was next door to his & we had accidentally just popped into the wrong one. I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard in a year! ;) Luckily – the guy & his wife were good sports. But man – how goofy are we!

Here’s a gift I made for my mom this year. It was from a Recollections class (so sad their stores will be closing soon!) The box was first painted with acrylic paints, then decoupaged with Recollections-line papers, and finally embellished with metal-embossed corners & a cross. The metal was tinted with black acrylic paint & Ranger alcohol inks. The cross also has a polymer clay focal piece in the center made with black Premo! clay covered in Perfect Pearls. :) Molds used for the metal embossing are from Ten Seconds Studios.
